About

Hello! I’m Sam and I’ve suffered from anxiety since I was 16 years old. It started off small and then slowly became a daily occurrence. My anxious thoughts were irrational which made me feel like I was going crazy! It was a scary time and I remember telling my parents that I feel like I need to spend time a psychiatric ward.

I was eventually diagnosed with Generalised Anxiety Disorder & Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. The diagnosis was a relief as it confirmed that I wasn’t going “crazy” or “losing my mind” and it also allowed me to move forward with treatment.Since the diagnosis, I’ve had therapy and various medication. Therapy has enabled me to understand my diagnosis and has given me tools to deal with my thoughts better. Medication has helped me in the past when the anxiety has been very intense and prolonged that it sent me into bouts of depression. I do believe there is a place for medication in mental health recovery and can get people to a place where they are able to access other help.

I still struggle sometimes, but now I have people that I can speak to when I’m feeling anxious which is unbelievably helpful. Exercising, socializing, learning new things and meditation have also really helped me. I also try to avoid alcohol as this triggers my anxiety (even though I do slip up sometimes!)

I started Battle Crew because I felt very fortunate that I have family, friends, and a therapist that I can talk to. I understand many people that struggle with their mental health don’t have this luxury, which must be incredibly tough.

Battle Crew’s mission is to raise awareness about Mental Health. Each design has been created to evoke a conversation around the topic and 25% of the profits will be donated to CALM ultimately supporting the “Campaign Against Living Miserably”.
